Lifeguard Training
This training class will be a mix of online learning and skill practice. If you are a successful candidate & become a hired lifeguard at the Poquoson Pool during the summer of 2024 the cost of the class will be REIMBURSED to successful hires at the completion of the 2024 Season. Remember that being hired at the Poquoson Municipal Pool is not guaranteed as their are pre-employment requirements and a hiring process for these seasonal staff positions.

DETAILS FOR LIFEGUARD TRAINING COURSE:

Must attend all class dates:
Swim test: May 29 4:00-8:30pm & Intro class unit.
Skills Sessions: May 30 4-8:30pm; May 31 4-8:30pm; June 1 8am-12pm; June 5 4-8:30pm
Must attend all sessions + online self-study. Schedule is weather dependent & may be adjusted.
First class will have a required swimming skills test that is a 150 meter
swim in either front crawl (freestyle stroke) or breast stroke, then a 2 minute treading water with no hands, and then an additional 50 meter swim in front crawl or breast stroke. No swimming on the back during each of the meter swim is permitted. Following  a brick dive/retrieval in deep water and swim 20 meters for time will also be required in accordance with the American Red Cross Training Standards.
Must pass skills test to proceed with the course.
